Foundation Conditions in Vanier
Vanier was its own city until it merged with Ottawa in 1969, and it remains one of the city’s densest, oldest residential areas, with rowhouses and low-rise housing built mainly from the early to mid-1900s. Its low-lying position near the Rideau River means drainage and grading matter more here than in many parts of Ottawa – older weeping tile and aging foundation walls are common, and water finding its way to a foundation has fewer places to drain to on a flatter, river-adjacent lot.
